PLEA Community Services is currently seeking a Temporary Full-Time Services Coordinator for our U-Turn/U-Link team located in Surrey, BC. This temporary contract is proposed to start on March 1, 2026 and end upon the return of the incumbent. This position requires BCGEU membership.

The Services Coordinator monitors and upholds the quality of services provided to youth in a family caregiver home. These youth may require specialized needs related to addiction, mental health, and challenging behaviours. The employee will coordinate all aspects of participant care: overseeing family caregiver homes where the youth reside, leading support workers, and assessing the progress of service delivery plans.

Hours of Work: the usual hours of work in this position are based on a Monday to Friday flextime scheduling arrangement, including days and evenings, of 35 working hours per week.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in child and youth care, social work, criminology or psychology; and
  • Two (2) years recent related experience working with vulnerable children and youth involved in youth justice, mental health, medical services or other community services, and their families/Family Caregivers, as well as experience working in a residential, community care, licensed or foster home setting.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide orientation and training to new Family Caregivers, regarding the specific expectations of the program, the circumstances of the participants, and the responsibilities of each member of the participant’s care team.
  • Supervise and maintain regular contact with Family Caregivers throughout the participant’s placement. Problem-solve with family caregivers and participants on issues related to family functioning, using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution, and de-escalation methods to resolve the identified challenges, needs and risks.
  • Maintain regular in-home visits and conduct regular risk assessments to ensure the compliance of Family Caregivers with health and safety standards, contract obligations and the agency’s policies and procedures. Develop strategies to address or prevent issues in the homes and follows up with Family Caregivers to ensure the strategies have been implemented.
  • Ensure all caregiving and respite files are in compliance and are current, accurate and complete through regular reviews. Address any issues in record keeping (e.g. providing additional training or requesting additional information) as necessary.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the participant’s care (i.e. from intake to discharge). Ensure all relevant parties have the information necessary to effectively deliver the services outlined in the participant’s service, safety and risk management plans.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of participant needs, makes referrals to other service providers, and leads the development, implementation and review of the participant’s service, safety and risk management plans.
  • Represent the program in the integrated case management process and in meetings with referring authorities, care team members and other professionals to report on the participant's progress, address case planning issues and concerns, evaluate the effectiveness of the service delivery and make adjustments when necessary.
  • Complete necessary participant and program reports as per the timelines required by the program. Ensure that all documentation pertaining to service delivery is current, accurate, complete and in compliance with the program’s policies and procedures.
  • Respond to participant critical incidents and emergencies. Recognize potential crises, analyses such situations accurately and implements strategies (e.g. de-escalation) to resolve them and prevent future occurrences. Comply with all internal and external reporting responsibilities.
  • Verify the accuracy of Family Caregivers' pay information and inputs accurate pay and billing information. Review Family Caregivers expenses and approve for reimbursement, when applicable.
  • Protect and uphold confidentiality.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues and trends related to the program.
  • Knowledge of issues and trends related to vulnerable youth and the behaviour/issues that may present, such as criminal activities, mental health issues and disorders, sexual issues, fire-setting, self-harm, suicidal and aggressive behaviours, physical and sexual assault, limited cognitive and social functioning, alcohol and/or drug related compromises and ongoing active use, oppositional defiance, conduct disorders, PTSD, ADHD and ADD, poor boundaries and impulse control.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, database systems and web-based conferencing tools.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Satisfactory Consolidated Criminal Record Clearance (CCRC) through the Ministry of Children and Family Development's Centralized Services HUB.
  • Must possess a valid Basic First Aid certificate (formerly OFA Level 1) or be willing to obtain one prior to hire.
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle work-related travel. This position requires travel in the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License, and suitable driver's abstract/claims history.
  • Documentation that the applicant is legally authorized to work on an ongoing basis in Canada.
